Marijuana / Question
Published: September 25, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hey, i smoked a blunt the other day, im not a big pot smoker, maybe every now and then. But when i took just one hit off that blunt, i speed up, i saw the world move at 100mph, i can't remember anything but slight aspects of what happend at that time, now it's 5 days later and i have a swelled up head, un-controlable bad dreams that keep me from sleep, and just a numb feeling. I just want to know what you guys think, as in, when will i be back to normal? and if the pot was laced, what could have possably been in it?

Signed: Was The Pot Laced

Dear Was The Pot Laced,

Unfortunately, over the internet TeenHealthFX is unable to know when you will be back to "normal" or what the marijuana was laced with.

Marijuana can have very damaging long and short-term effects. Long and short term use of marijuana can lead to addiction, the possibility of tainted pot (causing medical problems and conditions), decreased mental abilities and burnt out brain cells, mental confusion, lung damage, weight gain, increased tolerance (requiring more of the drug to get you high) and decreased sexual performance. All of these side effects can permanently damage your body.  For more information check out these other answers on TeenHealthFX High Times and Marijuana's Permanent Side Effects.

Since you are feeling these effects for such a prolonged period of time TeenHealthFX recommends that you see a doctor and tell him or her exactly what your symptoms are and how long you have been experiencing them.  Your doctor can evaluate you and recommend a course of treatment.  If you do not have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health for an appointment at 973.971.6475.  If you live outside of this area, contact your local teen health center.

TeenHealthFX recommends that you quit smoking pot altogether.  You can talk to a trusted adult, teacher or counselor who can help you get help in quitting. If you cannot find a trusted adult to talk to and live in northern New Jersey, you can again call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475 or contact Marijuana Anonymous at 1.800.766.6779.
