Smoking & Nicotine / Question
Published: May 9, 2002
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am 13 years old, and I smoke. I only smoke cigarettes about once or twice a week, but I'm getting a pack from my current boyfriend and my ex boyfriend. I was wondering, I have asthma and can smoking once or twice a week affect my asthma or make it worse? I like smoking and I don't want to quit.

Dear Smoking & Asthma,
TeenHealthFX cannot say enough about not smoking, especially with Asthma. Because the act of smoking directly affects your lungs and so does asthma, FX can say without doubt that it can make your asthma worse.
FX has answered several questions about the bad effects of smoking and ways of quitting. Check out these questions:
- Can Breath Out But Not In - Asthma?
- Quitting Smoking
- Smoking & Sports
- New Smoker
- Drugs That Equal Bad Breath & Wrinkling
- Friend Who Smokes A Pack A Day

Again, FX highly recommends that you quit smoking even if you like it and do not want to quit. There is help out there for a person that wants to quit.
