Dear TeenHealthFX,

How many kids die, a year from drunk driving?

Signed: Deaths From Drunk Driving

Dear Deaths From Drunk Driving,

As with other statistics this number will vary from year to year. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has reported the largest decline in alcohol-related fatal crashes in drivers under 21 from 1985-2001. However, although there has been a marked decrease in fatalities in alcohol-related crashes, there are still many deaths. Last year more than 2,400 teenagers between the ages of 15 and 20 died in alcohol related-traffic accidents.

It is important to drink and drive responsibly. The legal drinking age is 21 throughout the nation. This law has helped reduce the numbers of alcohol-related traffic accidents along with graduated licenses and enforcement of existing laws. Please do not drink and drive.

Check out MADD for more information.
