Using Multiple Drugs & Comparing Drugs / Question
Published: June 30, 2000

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have a problem in the category of sex. My problem is I ejaculate to fast, I'm not sure why. It is causing me other problems. I have an intimate relationship with my girlfriend. When I know we are gonna have intercourse I do drugs that slow me down from ejaculating too fast. I know it sounds stupid, but that's the only thing that works (drinking, cocaine, ecstasy). I'm still at the point where I can tell myself to stop doing drugs, but being intimate with my girlfriend means doing them for me. I hope to find a solution to this so I can stop the drug situation. I know this sounds so ridiculous but it is true, this is the only way. I have to tell someone because I am too embarrassed, please send back some advice or something!

Dear Using Drugs To Have Sex,

TeenHealthFX is glad that you wrote and you certainly should not be embarrassed because your problem is not uncommon. However, TeenHealthFX is concerned, as you yourself are, about your drug use. Though you are currently at a point in which your drug use may seem to still be under control, they all have serious consequences and can be habit forming. Also, your relationship with your girlfriend sounds special. No relationship is important enough to risk your own life in order to save face. While covering up one problem, you may be adding to others.

First - Let TeenHealthFX reassure you that the problem you describe, called premature ejaculation commonly occurs among teenagers when they first become sexually active. It is often the result of inexperience, excitement and anxiety. There are very effective behavioral techniques to deal with premature ejaculation. These techniques, once learned, are easy to practice, and much safer than altering your body with drugs.

TeenHealthFX strongly recommends that you see your doctor to discuss both your drug use and premature ejaculation. Your doctor will help you to determine if you have any physical problems that may cause premature ejaculation and can help you determine what help you need for your drug use.

It is important to remain open and honest with your partner about the problems you are experiencing. Sex can be scary, but being completely honest with yourself and your partner can help to relieve that built up tension and even help to eliminate some of the problem.
