Suicide / Question
Published: September 2, 2004

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have made three attempts on my life this year as it is. I want this all to stop. The love of my life is with my former best friend, I made a huge mistake that I thought was the right decision at the time and I am despised for it now. I am tired of trying and I'm tired of living. I feel there is no reason for me on this earth so the least I can do is stop burdening my family and friends. Do you think I should try and ride it out, one last time? Because I do not.

Dear Made 3 Attempts - Should I Try To Ride It Out?,

TeenHealthFX hears that you are feeling depressed and hopeless.  Although you do not go into details about your situation, we know that everyone makes decisions that we might regret later.  However, suicide is not the answer to a mistake.

TeenHealthFX wants you to know that depression is a treatable illness from which you can recover.  You can also try to learn from your mistake and use that knowledge for your benefit in the future.

If you get to the point that you are seriously considering suicide or are afraid of your impulses get help immediately. Dial 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room. If you live in northern New Jersey you can also call the crisis hotline at Morristown Memorial hospital at 973-540-0100. Outside this area call or log onto the National Hopeline Network at 1.800.SUICIDE (800.784.2433), 24 hours, 7 days a week.
