There is this boy in my class that always tries to harass me, but doesn't. Once he even tried touching my breast, but missed and touched my ribs. What should i do 'bout him?

Dear Boy Always Tries To Harass Me,

Your question is a serious one, unwanted physical or verbal advances can be upsetting. It is important to remember that you are not at fault. Unfortunately, this student may not realize that his advances have caused you to be upset. He may think that this is funny or that he is showing you that he is interested in a friendship or maybe more. What you have described is neither a funny nor an acceptable way to treat others. If you feel comfortable talking to this person, you can attempt to speak with him to let him know that his behavior will not be tolerated.

It sounds like these incidents occurred at school. The teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors who work at your school are responsible for making your learning environment safe. TeenHealthFX recommends that you report this incident to a trusted teacher or guidance counselor is you feel comfortable. It is important that this behavior stops, and you may help someone else from having to deal with a similar situation if you can report this incident. Also, talk to your parents about what is going on and how this boy is treating you. If you want, your parents can talk to the school officials for you.

If this situation continues to make you upset, you may with a professional to work through the emotions that you may be experiencing. If you live in northern NJ, you can call the Access Center for Behavior Health at (888) 247-1400, or if you are outside the area you should contact your local teen health center for a referral for mental health assistance.
