Dear TeenHealthFX,

I get these weird blankout episodes when I am upset. I can't think or feel - I just stare. My parents ask what I am thinking when this happens and I tell then the truth that I don't know. What is this and why does this happen?

Dear Weird Blankouts When I Am Upset,

It would be very hard for TeenHealthFX to give you an accurate diagnosis over the Internet. While the web is a great tool it is not a substitute for good medical care. Only a doctor who has completed a thorough examination would be able to answer your question and give you advice.

People deal with upsetting situations in different ways, but since you describe a situation where you can' t think or feel when this happens, it may be worth checking into. TeenHealthFX recommends that you make an appointment with your physician and let her/him know what has been happening. In the meantime, click I.M. Stressed  for ways to help you relax.

If you live in northern New Jersey and would like to see a doctor from the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health you can call 973.971.6457 for an appointment.
