Anger / Question
Published: July 8, 2003
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I hate my family. They always yell at me, when I always do the work. My older sister in college is a big bitch. She's always bitching about work and college. And everyone has pity on her. My little sister is always fxxing annoying. My mom is a drunk... or at least acts like one. My step-dad is the biggest xxxx on earth!! He always bitches at me, and how bad I am. I can't stay on the phone because my sister and him will always listen and won't get off. And they always yell at me. Is it normal to want to slit your wrists sometimes? Or even rip out their throats? I hate them. I have nothing else to live for other than my friends. I will kill them all someday. Do I need help? Sometimes the things I say really scare me. I love dreaming about killing all of them, or even cutting myself. Please help!!!

Dear I Hate My Family,
There are times when a person's family can get on their nerves. However, to constantly hate them and have violent fantasies about killing them or yourself is not healthy and you desperately need help before you do something that you will regret for the rest of your life. Your family may not treat you the way you feel they should but that does not mean they deserve to be mutilated. The level of anger that you express is extremely disproportionate to what you are experiencing. There is no justification for taking another person's life or your own life for that matter.
TeenHealthFX thinks that it is extremely important that you seek help right away. You may be reluctant to acknowledge that you have been having violent fantasies that include murder. However, it is not a crime to think about hurting someone, there are only consequences if you act on these thoughts.
If you get to the point that you are seriously considering hurting someone or yourself or are afraid of your impulses then you need to seek help immediately. You can call 911 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room. In northern New Jersey you can also call the crisis hotline from Morristown Memorial hospital at 973-540-0100. Outside this area call the Suicide & Crisis Hotline, 1-800-999-9999, 24 hours, 7 days a week.
