Suicide / Question
Published: November 12, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I'm getting depressed again. I already got help but it won't work and I have pills but they make me feel all numb and suppress all emotion. I'm a 14 year old male. My sister is a controlling psycho bitch and my mom is also very controlling and nosy also she thinks pills fix everything. I hate them both I would move with my dad in NC (my mom divorced him) but he would abuse me if I got bad grades my sister is a serious bitch, last night she told all my little secrets and stories to all her friends. She is two years older than me so she's a junior and I'm a freshman and her friends were my friends too, but now I can't look them in the face. All this is making me very bitter and sad. It seems the only option for me is to run away or kill myself I always talk to my mom but it does not help please help I'm very close to killing myself and I'm always thinking about cutting - please help.

Dear Very Close To Killing Myself,

TeenHealthFX hears that you have a lot going on in your life right now. Running away or killing yourself would only make things worse, not better. You need to get professional help - again. Tell your mom exactly how you are feeling (you can even show her your question and our answer) and that you want to get help. The medication that you are on may not be the right medication for you - but there are many medications to choose from. You can also call the professional who you worked with before and let them know what is going on in your life. The important thing is to know that your life can get better (and will take some work on your part).

If you get to the point that you are seriously considering suicide or are afraid of your impulses then you need to seek help immediately. You can call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room. In northern New Jersey you can also call the crisis hotline from Morristown Memorial hospital at 973-540-0100. Outside this area call the Suicide & Crisis Hotline, 1-800-999-9999, 24 hours, 7 days a week.

If you live in northern New Jersey and need help finding a therapist you can call the Access Center from Atlantic Behavioral Health at 973-247-1400. Outside of this area you can log onto the US Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website for referrals in your area.
