Dear TeenHealthFX,

I think I might have some sort of nervous anxiety problem. I know its normal to feel a bit nervous before big tests or important events. But for me, I get nervous all the time. My palms get sweaty almost 24/7 and my heart beats so fast. Just thinking about the little things makes my heart race. I could never just "relax" if you told me to. I especially get all nerve wracked when I go up and talk in front of people. What should I do? Signed : Nervous Anxiety Problem

Dear Nervous Anxiety Problem,

 

You have already identified that you may have an anxiety problem and TeenHealthFX agrees. Your symptoms can be normal if felt occasionally, but you are describing them as constant anxiety and maybe even panic attacks. Sometimes the biggest step is to identify problems that you are having or to pinpoint the symptoms, which you have done! Your symptoms sound like you may be having panic attacks. Now, its time to take the second step to get help from a trusted adult like your parent's, doctor or school nurse. They can help you find professional help.

Talking to a counselor about how you are feeling may help you. Also, your counselor may refer you to a psychiatrist who can evaluate you medically and may prescribe medication to help your symptoms. Therapy will help you to deal with your anxieties.

You should not go through this alone, get help.
