Interesting Sites and links for Spanish speaking and bilingual adolescents…
TeenHealthFX has for a long time felt that we needed to have a list of web resources for Spanish speaking teens. Finally, here are our suggestions of reliable sites with good information.
Specifically for teens…
- KidsHealth – A website by the Nemours Foundations that contains health information for parents, children, and adolescents on topics like adolescent development, nutrition, physical activity, chronic illnesses and disabilities, medical and surgical conditions and treatments, first aid, safety, and parenting..
- Planned Parenthood – The Spanish version of the planned parenthood website
Other health websites…
- Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality – Contains a list of Spanish language sites about health care quality, prevention, and wellness; choosing a health plan; and medication safety.
- American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP): Patient Education Online. Offers handouts on infant, child, and adolescent health and safety topics
- Be a Superhero/Superhéroes - Superhéroes is a public service campaign that urges Hispanics to stay healthy by visiting their doctor for regular screenings. It presents tips on ways to stay healthy and talk with a doctor, recommendations on preventive testing, help in understanding prescriptions, and a glossary of medical terms.
- Centers for Disease Control - The Spanish version of the Centers for Disease Control website
- Children's Health Fund (CHF): Health Education - Presents health education materials in Spanish for children and their families on all kinds of health topics.
- Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota: Patient/Family Education Materials A-Z - Offers Spanish health education handouts for families about medical conditions and procedures, medications, first aid, infant care, and well-child health visits.
- Familydoctor.org en Español – A website by the American Academy of Family Physicians that presents Spanish-language health information about medical conditions and illnesses, health promotion, health insurance and over-the-counter medications.
- healthfinder® en Español - Offers a search to Spanish-language health information websites from government and nonprofit sources
- Health Information Translations. A website by Ohio State University Medical Center, Mount Carmel Health System, which offers translated health materials on all kinds of health issues.
- MedlinePlus: Información de Salud para Usted - Provides Spanish links to information about medical conditions, diseases, and wellness.
- National Alliance for Hispanic Health - Offers health fact sheets and publications in Spanish.
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)/Institutos Nacionales de la Salud: Institutos y Centros - Contains links to the Spanish-language health Web sites developed by individual NIH institutes.
- Office of Minority (OMH)/Oficina de Salud de las Minorías - A website offered through the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) It contains Spanish-language health information on a wide range of health topics
- womenshealth.gov: El Centro Nacional de Información sobre la Salud de la Mujer - Contains links to Spanish-language health resources on a wide range of women's health topics including pregnancy, breastfeeding, heart disease, diabetes, and nutrition. This is a project of the Office on Women's Health, Department of Health and Human Services.
