Dear TeenHealthFX,
My friend removed a mole with a string and I'm trying it but it hurts, itches and is irritated. Is this a bad or a dangerous way to remove a mole?

Dear String To Remove Moles?,
This is not a healthy way to remove a mole from your body. The fact that it is irritated, hurts and itches should be a signal to you that a doctor should look at it. Because it sounds like you already removed the mole and have a cut or scrape, a doctor should evaluate it for infection. So call your doctor and make an appointment.
In the future, if you have mole that you do not like or that looks abnormal, see your doctor or dermatologist (a doctor that specializes in skin disorders.) Also, when a doctor removes a mole a sample is sent to a lab to see if any abnormal cells are present.
If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment or contact your local teen health center
