Body Temperature: Sweating & Coldness / Question
Published: July 30, 2001
Dear TeenHealthFX,
My hands are always FREEZING! Whenever I hold hands with someone or touch them, they tell me to get off because of my cold hands! Any ideas?

Dear Ice Hands,
People tend not to realize how something such as cold hands or sweaty palms can cause problems for some people. Not only do you have to put up with your own discomfort but you also have to deal with these awkward social situations as well.
First, do not smoke it impairs the circulation and avoid caffeine because it constricts blood vessels. Wear adequate clothing and including gloves, in the winter.
Stress can also be a factor in making your hands cold. Make sure that you exercise, eat right and get plenty of rest. Getting into these habits will have a positive effect on your overall well-being.
If you are going to hold hands with someone try warming your hands before you grab theirs. This will relieve you of having someone react negatively to your touch as well as spare your feelings.
If your fingers turn pale white or blue, then red in response to cold or you experience tingling or numbness, then you should see a doctor. This could be a sign of a medical problems.
