Dear Hairy Hands-Help!,
Unwanted hair is embarrassing for everyone and whether you are male or female. It is normal to have some hair on your hands and knuckles regardless of gender. It may be more prominent on others due to complexion and hair color.
There are many hair removal methods and you need to find the one that is best for you. Shaving is often the most convenient but can lead to painful ingrown hairs. Waxing will leave a hairless surface for a longer period and is a good method for most (but we recommend using a salon to reduce the chance of injury from hot wax). Yet, if these methods are not helping there are a few other options.
Depilatories can also remove unwanted hair by using chemicals to destroy hair on the surface. There are also products that can bleach or lighten the hair and make them less noticeable. Before you try this method on your hands, try using it on an inconspicuous part of your body first to make sure your skin is not too sensitive to the chemicals.
Electrolysis is a more permanent (and costlier) hair removal method. Hairs are removed one at a time by an electric current that destroys the hair follicle. These sessions can be costly and may require more than one visit to remove all unwanted hair.
It may be a good idea to discuss your situation with your doctor. He or she may want to do an evaluation to make sure there is no underlying medical condition that is causing you to have excessive hair. He or she may also make recommendations for your hair removal.
