Hairy Situations: Too Much, Too Little & Shaving / Question
Published: August 13, 2001
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am a 14 yr. old girl and I have small, thin, black hair growing on my breast and I need to know if this is normal and how do I get rid of it. Oh yeah, and what if more and more grow and then I get a hairy chest like a man?

Dear Breast Hair Problem - Female,
Yes, those small, little black hairs around your nipple are totally normal and it is very unlikely that you will have a hairy chest like a man. During puberty the hormones in your body begin to change. This increase will signal the growth of hair in different areas including the groin area, under your arms and sometimes the chest.
There is not a lot you can do to remove the hair. If you absolutely cannot live with them, you can cut it, but this is only a temporary solution. TeenHealthFX does not recommend shaving, waxing, or using depilatories on the area, as the skin around the nipple is very sensitive.
If you feel that you have an excessive amount of hair growth on your chest and face, consult your doctor for some advice.
