How can I get rid of migraines while studying?
Signed: Migraines
Dear Migraines,
It sounds as if you are describing painful headaches that occur while you are studying. TeenHealthFX can see why you would want advice on how to get rid of them. Your doctor can diagnose and treat the problem. These headaches can be migraines, but there are other types of headaches and other medical problems that can cause head pain. Keep a log of how often you get these headaches, the severity of the symptoms, how long they last, what you are doing before the headaches begin and your diet that day. This information will help your doctor make a diagnosis and best treat your problem.
Happening more frequently in women, migraine headaches usually begin during the teenage years. Because they are different and more severe than a regular headache, here are some of the symptoms:
- Extreme throbbing on one or both sides of his/her head
- Feelings of dizziness
- Having nausea and vomiting
- A sensitivity to light and sound
Migraines can last for a couple of hours to a few days. People often have difficulty carrying out normal activities like school or work because of the pain and other symptoms. Since you are having headaches, which may be migraines, you should see your doctor. There are several effective medications available for treatment of migraines.
If you get a migraine while you are waiting to go for your doctor's appointment, try to do something relaxing such as, taking a nap, sitting in a dark, quiet room, putting a cold wash cloth on your forehead and/or taking a bath. If the pain becomes severe, call your doctor and ask for an emergency appointment.
