Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am a 15-year-old female and I have small reddish purple squiggly, I'm guessing veins, in my thighs and calves. They are quite noticeable and I am wondering what they are and if it is possible to get rid of them. Thank You!

Dear Squiggly Veins,

TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose you over the Internet, but from what you describe it sounds like they are your veins that are close to the surface of your skin and are therefore are more noticeable to you. Many women get them, some more than others. Often, they are more noticeable in people with light color skin and sometimes called "spider veins." They are usually flat, painless and red-purple in color.

If they bother you or cause you any pain or discomfort, have your doctor check them out and recommend possible methods of treatment. Also, it is a good idea to get them checked by a doctor if they appear to be getting larger or protrude from the skin.
