Pee & Urine Issues - Pain, Bed-Wetting, Amount & Frequency / Question

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am 16 and for about two weeks every time I go to urinate there is a discoloration, like there is blood in my urine.

Signed: Discoloration In Urine

Dear Discoloration In Urine,

TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose you over the Internet but it is not normal to have your urine suddenly take on another color. The color may be from some type of infection which can cause blood in the urine or it may be caused by some other medical problem. You do not mention if you have any other symptoms such as pain or burning upon urination.

TeenHealthFX recommends that you see your doctor very soon to be evaluated. If you do not have a doctor and live in Northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973.971.6475. If you are out of this area you can get a referral to a doctor from your school nurse. You may be able to alleviate some of the symptoms by drinking lots of liquids (mainly water or unsweetened cranberry juice), but you must see a doctor to correctly diagnose and treat the problem.
