Dear TeenHealthFX,
How do I get rid of these darkish spots that are on my back? (They look Hyperpigmented)
Signed: Hyperpigmented Spots
Dear Hyperpigmented Spots,
By definition, blotchy brown spots are called hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition. Some possibilities of causes are...
- You have highly pigmented skin
- You were recently pregnant or you have been on birth control pills
- You have had excessive sun exposure while taking certain medications (antibiotics, tranquillizers, diuretics).
- You use fragranced skin products.
- You regularly use perfumes on your neck those areas now have spots
- You have been using facial depilatories, bleaching, or waxing procedures to remove hair
- You have been using over the counter acne preparations
- You do not use sun blocks when engaging in outdoor activities
In any case it will be necessary for you to see a dermatologist to get an accurate diagnosis. One your doctor knows what is, and then he/she can make recommendations on how to treat them.
Not all pigmentary (spots) problems can be corrected, particularly those that are genetic or situated deep within the skin. However those in the upper layer of the skin can be significantly improved.
