Other Skin Conditions: Moles, Birthmarks, Dryness, Etc. / Question
Published: March 17, 2005

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I sent in a question a few weeks ago and it was never answered, and I completely understand that you have lots of questions to answer and might not have been able to answer mine, but I thought I'd try again...I just have been feeling really self-concious about my body and espcially my face because I have lots of "beauty marks" and moles. The moles are definitely not canerous but ugly. Is there anyway I can remove them without scars? thanks

Dear Moles and Beauty Marks,

The answer to your question largely depends on the size, location and type of mole. The person who would be best suited to answer your question is a dermatologist (skin doctor) who has examined you. Most procedures can be done in a dermatologist's office. The most common methods of removal include numbing the spot and then shaving the mole off or for some moles, cutting out the entire lesion and stitching the area closed. Sometimes a mole will grow back after it has been removed.

Another way to make a mole less noticeable is to disguise it with makeup. Cosmetics specifically designed to cover blemishes can provide more complete coverage than ordinary cosmetics.
