Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have this problem where some kids were messing with me and last marking period I didn't get good grades and I could'nt transfer to another school. Someone threatened them and now this marking period I think I can pass to another school, but I don't know If I should now because the same thing might be at the other school too.

Dear Problems With Classmates - Transferring Schools,

FX will answer your main question in a minute, but hang in there and read the first paragraph.

FX is concerned about your situation. You mentioned, "kids were messing" with you. Without the specifics, FX needs to do some presuming. Were they making fun of you? Picking on you? Hurting you physically or sexually? FX does not know the answers to these questions, but if you answered "yes" to any one of them then you need to report this to an adult at your school like a teacher, school counselor or nurse. You did state in your question that someone threatened them to stop, but you did not say to whom. If this was another classmate or friend that did the threatening, then you still need to report it to an adult. It is very important to share what is going on with school officials because it is their job to ensure that you are safe and are able to concentrate on learning without being threatened by other students.

As far as transferring to another school goes, you sound like you understand what a big decision this is. Moving to a new school can be both scary and exciting. It is hard to predict whether the situation will improve at your new school, but by preparing yourself by concentrating on excelling in school, and perhaps finding an activity, sport, or club to participate in the situation at either school may improve.

You also may find it helpful to speak to a therapist about what has gone on. This can help you put the past situation into perspective. Also, they can help you make a more informed decision about transferring. Ask your parents or school staff member to help you in finding one.
