Not Satisfied With Being Single / Question
Published: November 20, 1999

Dear TeenHealthFX,

My school is having a millennium social. My friends and I want to go, but we are afraid we will look stupid going without a date. I really do not want to ask a boy and no one has asked me. What should I do?

Dear No Date For The Millennium Social,

The millennium social at school will probably be a safe, fun and exciting event. FX thinks you and friends should go whether you have a date or not! You will not look stupid and probably will be pleasantly surprised when you go and find out many people are not bringing a date.

FX admires your independence and feels all people should be comfortable by themselves in the social arena. Many people, especially teenagers need to learn to be able to enjoy themselves without having a boyfriend/girlfriend around. This independence will help you when you start a relationship with a significant other because you will know you can rely on yourself to have a good time. The decision to ask someone is yours and if you do not feel comfortable with it, don't do it!

Remember that it is not so important that you have a date with you, but you have close friends to share the millennium event and ring in the year 2000 and a New Year!
