Not Satisfied With Being Single / Question
Published: December 14, 2001
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am 14 and I have gone out with 5 guys and only kissed one. The problem is that my relationships never last. My longest relationship lasted for only two weeks and 1 day! Do you think it might have something to do with the kissing thing, and when is it appropriate time to kiss him (or should I let him make the move)? I need your advice. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dear 5 Guys And Kissed One,
At 14 the business of relationships is so new that it is rare that they last more then a few days, let alone a few weeks. You should never resort to doing anything you are not comfortable with just to be in a relationship.
The appropriate time to kiss is when you feel comfortable doing it. You can let the other person make the move but it should be something that you want to happen. If you are not at ease kissing or engaging in any other form of intimacy then tell the other person you are not interested.
TeenHealthFX encourages you to focus on yourself and find the things that make you happy. Too often, teens feel pressure to be in a relationship as a way of obtaining fitting in or because they think they are supposed to be in a relationship. Allowing your self-esteem to suffer simply because you do not have a boyfriend or girlfriend really does not make a lot of sense if you think about. People should judge you for who you are and not for whom you are dating.
