Dear Period Is Late But I Have Never Been Sexually Active,

It is very common when a female first begins to get her period that it is irregular. These cycles of irregular periods can last for a while.

TeenHealthFX has answered several questions similar to yours. Check out Extremely Worried About My Period, Period Not Regular - Help!, Not So Normal Period and Period Not Regular After 2.5 Years for more information. Also, discuss your period with your mother and your doctor.

It would be a good idea for you to keep track of your periods using a calendar marking when they begin and when they end. If you do not get your period for 6 months or your periods do not become regular after your first year, please see your doctor. If you do not have a doctor or gynecologist and live in the Northern New Jersey area you can contact the Adolescent Young Adult Center for Health at 973.971.6475 or Girl's Street - A Young Woman's Health Program at 908.522.2555. Show them the calendar that you have kept of your cycles and they will be able evaluate your periods for you and give you suggestions about how to deal with them. Your doctor can check to make sure everything is okay and give you medicine to regulate your periods
