Pregnancy: I Know I'm Pregnant / Question
Published: November 19, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I don't know what to do! I am 18 years old and a senior in high school. I am 1 month pregnant and I don't know if I want to have the baby or not. I have told my mom and she say's me and my boyfriend have to think about how much it will cost to have a baby and how hard it will be for me since I am going to college. My boyfriend and his family wants me to have the baby more then anything and we are planning on moving out in one month. But I don't know if I want the baby because there is so much responsibility. I know it is my fault for getting pregnant and I am against abortions but maybe my mom is right? I don't want to have an abortion because my boyfriend would be so upset but my mom thinks that he will not be with me for more then one year and then what am I going to do? I am 1so confused I need some advice what to do so I hope you can help me. Thank you

Dear 18 Y.O. Pregnant High School Senior,

TeenHealthFX is glad you wrote. Your mom is right - you and your boyfriend do have a lot of thinking to do about this pregnancy and your future - as individuals and as a couple. The decisions you make now will have an impact on the rest of your life and now you both need to realistically determine what you are going to do. We're glad that you both seem to have parents who want the best for you. Remember, it is not just your fault you got pregnant - it takes two to become pregnant!

Check out TeenHealthFX's answer to 15 Y.O. & Wants To Be Pregnant for some questions you and your boyfriend need to ask yourselves about being pregnant and having a child.

Additionally, you will need to consider how you will pay for college and who will watch your child while you are attending classes and doing your homework.

Also, what has your relationship with your boyfriend been like in the past? How long have you been together? Have you been with him a long time and has he been steady and his family supportive or have you known him a short time (a few months, say) and don't really have a handle on what he's like.
