Penis & Testicle Concerns / Question
Published: September 26, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have what appears to be broken skin on my right testicle and sometimes my inner thigh where the testicle touches. It appears every so often (sometimes once a month, sometimes every 3-4 months). It is painful to touch, and has a reddish appearance. I'm 24, infrequent sex partners (2-3 a year), tested for STD's regularly, and always use a condom. Is this normal? Please give me any information you can about this. Thank you.

Dear Broken Skin On Testicle,

TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose you over the Internet and due to the nature of your situation strongly urges you to see a doctor. Many conditions or factors can give the appearance that you described and only a doctor can diagnose and treat your specific problem.

Since you are sexually active, it is a good idea to not have sex with anyone until you get this checked out just in case it is an STD. Also, it is important to discuss with your sex their sexual history and always practice safer sex. You mention that this is a recurring problem and one that is painful; therefore you should not delay in seeking medical attention.

Please make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible. If you live in northern New Jersey and would like help finding a doctor you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973.971.6475.
