Vaginal Discharge, Infections, & Odors and Douching / Question
Published: March 11, 2004

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am a 17 year old female. I'm sexually active and have started to get a smelly odor down there. Then I started douching and the odor would go away for a short time. It doesn't hurt or anything. It just smells.

Dear Douche, But Still Smell,

See a doctor and stop douching immediately. Douching is not good for the body and it takes away your bodies natural ability to fight some infections (for more information on this see Vagina Smelly - How To Clean? & Confused About Douching).

Also FX recommends that you see an adolescent medicine doctor or a gynecologist because the smell started after you had become sexually active, you may have exposed yourself to an STD. You really need to go to a doctor to get checked out.
