Dear Sex On Third Day Of Period,

You don't mention whether you used birth control when you had sex. Practicing safer sex will greatly reduce your chances of getting pregnant any time of the month.

A woman is most likely to get pregnant in the middle of her cycle - about halfway between the start of one period and the start of the next period - when an egg is traveling down her fallopian tube and is able to be fertilized. However, no one's cycle works perfectly and consistently every time, and the younger you are, the less regular your periods are. It is possible to get pregnant any time during your cycle, and you should use birth control each and every time you have sex.

The only way you can know for sure if you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test. You can buy a home test, or call a local Adolescent Health Center or Planned Parenthood. If you live in northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. These places have professionals who can discuss your options with you in the event that you are pregnant.
