Sexually Transmitted Diseases / Question
Published: September 9, 2003
Dear TeenHealthFX,
For a little while now I noticed that some a bump or two will come up on my vagina, and I wanted to know could it be a STD b/c I'm not a virgin but I have only had sex 1 time and it was like 3 years ago (I haven't had sex since then) and the person I was with was a virgin too ... and the bumps are just coming up ... I was wondering if it is some kind of infection why would it take so long to show up? Could it be some kind of yeast infection? Oh yeah, and if you did have yeast infection ... what would happen... like how would you know? I hope you can answer my question .. It's important to me thank you.

Dear Bump Or Two On Vagina - Infection?,
It's unlikely that the bumps you are noticing are the result of an STD you got 3 years ago - you most likely would have noticed symptoms much sooner than this. Unfortunately, we can't tell what these bumps are over the internet. The only way to know for sure is to visit a doctor. If you do not have a doctor and you live in Northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. If you live elsewhere, get in touch with your local adolescent health center or Planned Parenthood.
If you had a yeast infection, you'd probably have a discharge that could be watery or slightly chunky - it sometimes resembles cottage cheese. You might also experience itching or redness around your vaginal area, and pain or a burning sensation when you pee. Bumps around your vagina are not a common symptom of a yeast infection, but again, you need to see a doctor in order to get a proper diagnosis.
