Male Body Concerns / Question
Published: May 31, 2007
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am an overweight male and I have been masturbating for about 4 years now... About a year ago I noticed that my right breast had become much smaller than the other. I have no idea how it got as small as it is without me noticing, but it has. Upon discovering this, I decided to "switch" hands, and attempt to work my left breast down to the same size. It is now a year later and I can't really notice any improvement at all; it seems to be the exact same size it was a year ago! This is very embarrassing for me, but the past couple of months have been easy for me because I have been able to wear a hoodie that hides my figure. But summer is coming in a couple of months and I have no idea what to do! Nothing is helping! I started exercising last October, and I have lost about 20 pounds since then, but my left breast will not shrink. Is there anything I can do to help this??? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Dear My Right Breast Became Smaller Than the Other,
TeenHealthFX can hear how worried you are about this situation, but wants to assure you that the change in size of your right breast is not a result of masturbating – that is why you are not seeing any changes in your left breast as a result of switching the hand you use when masturbating. In addition, chest size may become somewhat reduced as a result of significant weight lose – but generally does not reduce each breast in such a way that would leave such a noticeable difference in size.
Having one breast larger than the other may be due to Gynecomastia. This is a condition where round, mobile and tender masses located just underneath the areola contribute to an enlarged breast. This is a benign condition that occurs in 50-60% of boys during early adolescence. If the mass is large, fixed, or if discharge is present, then further work-ups by your doctor are necessary.
FX does recommend that you meet with a doctor so that you can get an accurate assessment of your situation. While Gynecomastia is a possibility, a doctor would need to perform an examination in order to rule out other possible contributing factors, such as hyperthyroidism, obesity, drug use, or other medical issues.
If you don't have a doctor and live in northern
