Male Body Concerns / Question
Published: February 23, 2004

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have never performed sexual acts involving my penis but about a year ago I noticed about 6 small bumps around my frenulum. I am circumcised but I don't know of another word to express the region. They are always there and are about the size of a pinhead but I am afraid they might worry a sexual partner performing oral sex. I have annual check ups. Can I just assume my doctor has noticed them and sees they are no problem?

Dear Bumps Around Frenulum,

Your frenulum is the area on the underside of your penis (the part farthest from your belly) where the head, or "glans" meets the shaft.

If you have not engaged in any sexual acts with a partner - including oral sex - then you do not have a sexually transmitted disease. It may be that these bumps are normal and that is why they did not concern your doctor. But it is never a good idea to assume a doctor has noticed something and dismissed it. If you are concerned, it is a good idea to ask just to make sure.
