Breasts: They Come In All Shapes & Sizes / Question
Published: February 5, 2003
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am studying to be a dancer. My problem is that I am getting very large breasts. I was a size 34C last may and now I am almost a D-cup. My mother and sister are really huge also. I am 14. My 16-year-old sister is a 36DD. I want to know how to keep my breasts from getting too big.

Dear Breasts Getting Too Large - Dancer,
Since you are 14 there is a good possibility that the size of your breasts my increase. In the meantime TeenHealthFX recommends getting a well fitting and supportive bra. (See Bra Size and Info) Good support and proper fit will reduce the appearance of your breasts and will prevent any back pain that could possibly develop.
Breast size is a function of mostly genetics and some environmental factors such as diet. There is nothing noninvasive that you can do to alter the course of your development.
Surgical reduction is not a viable option since your breasts are still growing.. Surgical reduction is only for people that feel that the size of their breasts interferes with their normal daily function/ health. Surgery is permanent and can be risky.
TeenHealthFX encourages you to look beyond physical attributes and accept yourself for who you are. While having large breasts may hamper your quest to become a dancer it should not affect your love of dancing.
