Dear TeenHealthFX,

I was wiping the other day and i had blood so i put a pad on. I had a little bit more about 3 hours when i went the bathroom again. I didn't have any blood in my underwear though. Now i have no blood. Did i get my period and should i wear pads now??

Dear Did I Get My Period?,

TeenHealthFX cannot make any kind of accurate diagnosis over the internet or know whether the bleeding you experienced by caused by your period or something other than menstruation (for example, an internal problem that may be causing rectal bleeding). FX recommends that you inform your parents about the bleeding you experienced and then meet with your primary care physician or an adolescent medicine specialist who can let you know whether the bleeding was your period or some medical issue that requires treatment.

If the bleeding is due to your period, speak with your mother or to your doctor to learn how to manage your period and to have any questions that you might be curious about answered.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment. You can also contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood, or call your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
