Other Birth Control Method Questions And Concerns / Question

Dear TeenHealthFX,
I was on the depo shot and my period never stopped. I only received two shots but I had my period for nine months before it finally stopped for three weeks and now it has started back up again and won't stop! Please tell me what to do I can't take it anymore!

Dear Depo & Periods,
Side effects of Depo-provera include irregular periods, amenorrhea (no periods), weight gain (sometimes with bloating), and abdominal pain or discomfort. The irregular menstrual bleeding induced by Depo is usually self-limited; most users eventually stop having their period (amenorrhea).
This said, it is not normal to bleed for nine months and FX would recommend seeing your doctor that is prescribing the depo for you to discuss this. He/she can help determine whether or not the bleeding you are experiencing is a side effect of the Depo or is due to something else.
Again, this is definitely a concern that you should talk with your doctor. TeenHealthFX suggests calling your doctor as soon as possible.
