I am a female. It seems like a lot of guys I have talked to lately just want to get to know me to have sex. Is this common in guys or have I just been hanging around the wrong people?

That's unfortunate! NO, most guys do not only want to get to know girls for sex. It is quite normal for teenagers to think about sex often due to their changing bodies; however, sex is and should be a well thought out, meaningful activity between two consenting people in a relationship.
Be careful who you are hanging around with. There are plenty of guys out there who want to have female friends and develop a relationship with them before having any type of sexual relations. It sounds like you are interested in friendship and companionship, not only sex.
Because sex is a powerful and intimate activity, you should think over your decision carefully. Remember, two people can have a close relationship without sex. When considering having sex with someone, take into consideration the consequences, such as possible pregnancy and the risk of developing a sexually transmitted disease (STD) - as well as whether or not you feel emotionally ready to be that physically intimate with someone. If and when you and your partner feel you are ready for sex, please follow the safer sex guidelines and go to a teen health center in your area. A teen health center will have professionals available for you to talk to about your sexuality, birth control methods and STD protection. Teen health centers can see teenagers for sexual health issues at low or no cost and you do not need your parent's permission.
