Oral & Anal Sex / Question
Published: January 17, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

What does oral sex mean?  Also, what is a hand job, and finger job mean?  I'm 17 and completely clueless.  It would be greatly appreciated to answer in the fullest extent.

Dear 17 And Clueless,

It can be confusing and embarrassing to hear terms that you do not know.  Oral sex is stimulating a partner's genitals by mouth.  This is called "fellatio" when done on a man and "cunnilingus" when performed on a woman.  A hand job is stimulating a male partner's penis by hand (masturbating a male).  A finger job is stimulating a female's clitoris vagina by using fingers (masturbating a female).

When performing any type of sexual activity, you should practice safer sex, even with oral sex. You can use condoms on males with oral sex as well as sexual intercourse. For females, you can use dental dams or a condom cut along the seam to cover the vaginal area during oral sex. This can help to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. When you decide to become sexually active, both you and your partner should be seen at a teen health center or local Planned Parenthood.  In Northern New Jersey you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973.889.6350.  They can check you both out medically, go over birth control methods and options with you and discuss any questions you may have.

Hope this clears up your confusion.
