Male Body Concerns / Question

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I'm 17 and am worried about something. I have had protected sex with my girlfriend a couple of times, and I realized after looking at my sperm that it was yellow and lumpy. I have been told that it is meant to be white, after asking a friend, and not lumpy, which has frightened me. Is anything wrong with me?

Dear Sperm Yellow & Lumpy - Something Wrong?,

Immediately after ejaculating, semen is normally a whitish, cream colored, jell-like substance. During the 5 to 30 minute period after ejaculation, the fluid tends to liquefy or become more milky, at which point it can appear to have small chunks in it. This is normal and is not considered a medical situation that you need treatment for. If this is not the case and you are ejaculating lumpy fluid, you may want to consult your doctor to make sure everything is normal.

If you cannot talk to your doctor and live in Northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health in Morristown at (973) 971.6475. If you live outside of Northern New Jersey, please call your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood.
