Male Puberty Issues / Question
Published: August 7, 2001
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am 15 and I am yet to have my wet dream, I have not attempted to masturbate, an am yet to be in the situation where I can release sperm, but its never happened. Could I have a disorder?

Dear Not Yet Wet (Dream),
It is perfectly normal not to have wet dreams. Wet dreams or nocturnal emissions happen when guys ejaculate at night while sleeping. These usually occur between the ages of 11 and 16 when sperm production begins inside the testicles. It is also possible to have erections while sleeping but not to have an ejaculation. Masturbation does not affect whether or not you have wet dreams.
If you have any further concerns, it may be helpful to discuss them with your doctor your local teen health center or, if you live in Northern New Jersey, with a doctor from the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health. You can make an appointment by calling 973.889.6350.
