Dear TeenHealthFX,
How can I tell when I am going to start my period?

Dear When Will I Get My Period?,
Excellent question. A girl's period can begin as early as age 8 and as late as age 16, so age is not the best predictor. However, a fairly good predictor can be the age at which your close female relatives started menstruating.
There are other signs to look for to signal the beginning of puberty. Your period will normally begin about 2 - 3 years after the first signs of breast development and 1 - 2 years after your pubic hair begins to come in. Acne can also be a good indication that your hormones are changing and that your period will soon be here. All of these signs are not exactly perfect and are not the same for everyone.
You don't mention how old you are, but if you are over the age of 16 and still have not gotten your period it would be a good idea to consult your doctor.
Good luck!
