Dear TeenHealthFX,
Does being an athlete effect a persons sexual abilities? Are athletes better in the bedroom then non-athletic people? I am a very athletic girl. I am interested because a boy that I go to school with insists that non-athletic boys, especially those that smoke pot are better in bed. I cannot believe that this could be true. Please clear this up for me and all of the girls in my school that he is trying to convince.

Dear Are Athletes Better In The Bedroom Than Pot Smokers,
TeenHealthFX could not find any research to support your friend's assertion. A person's involvement in sports or in the use of marijuana is not what defines the quality of their sexual experiences. While a person's physique may help to stimulate sexual interest, the quality of sexual experiences is determined largely by the emotional connection between the two consenting people involved. Having sex with someone is a very big deal, and the sexual act comes with very real consequences. From pregnancy to sexually transmitted diseases, people engaging in sexual activities have a lot to be concerned with. Both the trust formed between the couple and the common understanding of the magnitude of the sexual experience is what is important.
With that being said, when people engage in sex, they not only experience their partner's bodies, but also become more in tune with their own bodies. A person's preference of body type and what they are attracted to can enhance the sexual experience. Whether or not the person is attracted to more or less athletic individuals is just that, a personal preference.
In regards to marijuana use, studies have shown that marijuana use deceases both sperm count and sperm motility and may disrupt the body's normal level of hormones. In addition, use of marijuana affects both motor coordination and the body's sensory ability. As described above, these are aspects which may affect how in tune a person is with their own body, as well as how in tune they are with their partners body.
So it really has more to do with the partners involved rather than being athletic or a pot smoker.
