Dear Didn't Take Azithromycin as Prescribed for Chlamydia,

A course of antibiotics is not considered effective if there is a gap between pills or if the prescription is not taken in full. That said, if you missed your third and fourth pills, it would not be effective for you to take the last two now. TeenHealthFX recommends that you get in touch with the doctor who prescribed you the Azithromycin, explain the situation, and have him/her prescribe you a new antibiotic. Doctors choose a specific antibiotic and specific course of treatment for a reason. So it is important to take the antibiotic exactly as prescribed. Do not skip pills and do not stop taking the antibiotic even if you start feeling better while in the middle of the course of medication.

If you have any other questions or concerns about taking the antibiotics, please discuss with your prescribing doctor. FX also recommends that you refrain from sexual activity until cleared by your doctor.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
