Dear Could There Be A Medical Problem If My Nipples Look Big?,

Is it weird if your nipples look rather large? I have seen other girls in magazines like W or Vogue and they look smaller than mine. Does that mean I have cancer or some other problem I should go to a doctor with?

Dear Could There Be A Medical Problem If My Nipples Look Big?,

The fact that your nipples are larger than what you have seen in other young women is no cause for alarm. Nipples (like breasts) will vary in size – and those variations are completely normal.

There can be medical problems associated with nipples. However, symptoms of medical problems with nipples usually result in things like tenderness, skin changes, changes in the shape of the nipple, or discharge from the nipple. If you have any of these symptoms, then FX would recommend that you speak to your primary care physician, gynecologist or adolescent medicine specialist.

If you find that this continues to concern you and you just want some peace of mind about it, you could always speak to your doctor about it. You could schedule something soon or ask your doctor about it at your next check-up.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
