Dear Worried About The Yellow Patch Of Skin On My Breast,

I found a yellow patch of skin on my breast.. I don't think its a bruise because I've had a cold the past couple of days so I haven't been out and about.. I'm getting kind of worried

Dear Worried About The Yellow Patch Of Skin On My Breast,

Even though you don’t remember a specific injury, yellow skin discoloration of your breast is still most likely to be a bruise. However, TeenHealthFX would recommend that you feel around the area for any lumps or hard spots. Performing a breast self-exam regularly is helpful to assess for changes. It is performed by placing the arm of the breast that you are examining behind your head, and, using the fingertips of your opposite hand, feeling the breast tissue from the outside into the middle.

FX recommends that you monitor the discolored patch for any changes. If it has not gone away within a few days, if you feel a lump, if nipple discharge develops, or if you notice any other symptoms that are concerning to you, then you should make an appointment with your primary care physician, gynecologist or adolescent medicine specialist so that he/she can perform a full evaluation.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
