Dear Same Bra Size For Three Years Bothers Me,

I just recently turned 18 and my bra size has been the same since I was about 15 (32B). And it bothers me. i heard that if you gain weight that your breasts will grow, but it's been pretty much impossible for me to gain weight no matter how hard I've tried. I guess my breasts have already stopped growing naturally :( but I really want bigger boobs. Is there anything I can do besides implants (which i've heard are dangerous in the long run)

Dear Same Bra Size For Three Years Bothers Me,

According to the Center for Young Women’s Health:

Heredity is the most important factor in determining breast shape and size. No creams, special exercises, or clothing will permanently change your breast size. Your breasts may change with weight loss or gain or after a pregnancy, but for the most part the size of your breasts stays the same once you have finished puberty.

TeenHealthFX would add that while gaining weight can increase breast size, the amount of weight many people would have to gain in order to notice a significant increase in breast size could potentially bring on health problems in terms of the health risks associated with being overweight or obese. If you are underweight and need to get to a health weight range, it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about the best ways to gain weight. However, FX would not recommend that someone gain weight for the sole purpose of increasing breast size.

FX does agree that you should stay away from implants. There are definitely risks associated with getting breast implants, as well as implant complications that can occur. In addition to potential risks and complications, there is the expense to consider.

Keep in mind that having bigger breasts can come with its own issues. Women with larger breasts sometimes find the size of their breasts to be physically uncomfortable (especially when exercising), experience back pain because of their breast size, or feel objectified by men at times because of the size of their breasts.

Sometimes women want bigger breasts because they think it will make them sexier or more beautiful. If that is a concern, then FX wants you to think about these beautiful, sexy women who have a B-cup: Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Kristen Stewart, Megan Fox, Victoria Justice, Pink, Shakira, Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, Kate Hudson, Brigitte Bardot, Cher, Cindy Crawford, Cameron Diaz, Farah Fawcett, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Gwyneth Paltrow, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julia Roberts, and Brooke Shields – just to name a few.  Even Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is a B-cup.

Rather than focusing on a way to change your breast size, FX suggests that you focus on figuring out why your breast size bothers you so much and how you can come to accept and love your breasts and body as is. You might also consider what you wear. Certain types of bras and bathing suits, and certain styles of tops and dresses, will be more flattering than others depending on your breast size. So you could also experiment with different clothing options to see what styles make you look and feel your best.
