Dear Should I See A Gyn To See If There Is A Hormonal Problem?,

Im 17 years old and have had my period since i was 12. I have very irregular periods with a lot of pain, i have had no breast development whatsoever meaning im not even a bra size i just dont have anything at all, im just flat, i dont know what to expect or if they will ever grow, im wondering if going to a gynecologist its a good idea to see if there is a hormonal problem with me affecting my breast development. Any answer would help a lot.

Dear Should I See A Gyn To See If There Is A Hormonal Problem?,

Given that you have had your period for five years and it is still so irregular and causing you so much pain, it is certainly possible that there are some hormonal issues going on that should be discussed with your primary care physician, an adolescent medicine specialist or a gynecologist.

As for your breast development, there could be something hormonal going on or you could be genetically predisposed to be somewhat flat-chested. You might take a look at some of the females in your family to see if they are more on the flat side or not.

TeenHealthFX can’t know exactly what is going on or make any kind of accurate diagnosis over the web. So we do recommend you meet with your doctor so that he/she can properly assess your symptoms, perform any needed tests, and provide any treatment that might be necessary to address these issues.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
