No Period, No Insurance

Published: May 14, 2012
Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have skipped my period for the past two months, but I know I am not pregnant. This past week had me feeling intense cramping, along with throwing up occasionally, but no bleeding at all. I've had an irregular period before, but I've never skipped two months in a row. I'm worried that something may be wrong, but I also don't have insurance to seek any medical consultation. Any advice/ideas on what this could be? Thank you so much.

Dear No Period, No Insurance,

TeenHealthFX could list many reasons why you have missed your period, feeling intense cramps and nausea, but it wouldn’t really answer your question. Trying to diagnose on the web is an educated guess at best. Often times when people turn to the internet for answers to medical issues they get overwhelmed by the possibilities which can lead to more worry and anxiety.

Since you have had missed periods and have been experiencing severe cramps and nausea you really need to be seen by a doctor. No having medical insurance should not be a barrier to seeking medical help. There are many adolescent health clinics and organization that will offer treatment based on your ability to pay. It can range from low cost to no cost depending on your financial situation. TeenHealthFX urges you to seek out one of these facilities so that you can be examined and get an accurate diagnosis of what is going on with your body.

If you live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health in Morristown 973-971-6475 or the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health in Summit at 908-522-5757 for an appointment. Outside this area contact a local Adolescent Medicine Specialist, your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood.
