Published: January 27, 2014
Dear Bleeding Heavily And In Pain Since Having Sex,

I've had intercourse several times before, and this has never happened, but I just had sex with my boyfriend, and it was quite painful throughout. I also started bleeding very heavily during intercourse, it's been about four hours now and I'm still bleeding very heavily and I'm in a lot of pain. The pain is actually within my vagina and it's got to the stage where I can hardly walk and I can't sit down comfortably either. I so there anything I can do without going to he doctors?

Dear Bleeding Heavily And In Pain Since Having Sex,

Given the bleeding and the intensity of pain you are experiencing TeenHealthFX thinks that it is important for you to meet with your primary care physician or gynecologist as soon as possible. We cannot know why exactly you are bleeding or in so much pain, but it is important for you to find out. FX doesn’t want you to be scared that this is definitely something serious. It is just important given your symptoms that you be properly diagnosed so that way if you need any kind of treatment or intervention, it can be put in place for you before anything does get worse. FX appreciates that you may feel either scared or embarrassed to go to the doctor, but please know that your doctor is there to help you, not judge you.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood.
