Dear Body Hair Is Coming In Fast - Is It Normal?,

Hair growing quickly Hi I'm 12 and I am getting hair everywhere. I am the only one in my grade to have armpit hair and the only one who is noticing long hair on there face and chin. And I have a boat load of pubic hair. Is it normal???

Dear Body Hair Is Coming In Fast - Is It Normal?,

Since you mentioned that you are getting hair on your face and chin, TeenHealthFX is going to assume you are a guy. For guys, the growth of hair on the body (armpit hair, facial hair, pubic hair, etc.) is all part of puberty. Puberty for guys can start as early as 10 years old, and as late as 14 or 15. You might be one of the first in your grade going through puberty and/or you may be going through changes faster than some of your peers, but it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong. Puberty is different for everyone in terms of when it starts and how quickly changes occur.

If you continue to have concerns or questions, FX recommends you speak to your primary care physician or an adolescent medicine specialist. You could also check in with your school nurse if that would be more convenient for you. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.

You can read more about puberty for guys on the Young Men’s Health website of Boston Children’s Hospital.
