Dear Pubic Hair, But No Armpit Hair - Is That Normal?,

Im 15 and I have pubic hair but no armpit hair. Is this normal? And if i am still in the developing stage, will masterbating affect growth/rate of my penis?

Dear Pubic Hair, But No Armpit Hair - Is That Normal?,

The fact that you have pubic hair, but your armpit hair has not started growing in yet, is no cause for alarm. There are generalizations when it comes to the age and the order in which things occur when it comes to the bodily changes associated with puberty, but the fact is that everyone goes through puberty at their own pace.

Two important things for guys to remember when it comes to puberty include:

  • If a guy has not had any signs of puberty by the age of 14, a visit to the doctor would be a good idea.
  • Poor nutrition can affect puberty – so it is important to maintain a healthy diet.

As for your question about masturbating, it will have no impact of the size of your penis or the rate in which your penis grows. That is determined by genetics, which means the genes you inherited from your parents.

If you continue to have any questions or concerns about the changes your body is going through, you can speak to your primary care physician or an adolescent medicine specialist. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
