Not Sure If I've Ever Had an Orgasm

Published: September 13, 2017
Dear ,
This might sound like a stupid question and I'm sorry if it does :( I've had sex, but only with one person, and I have masturbated with a vibrator plenty. I always end feeling amazing and fufilled, the only problem is, I don't know if I've orgasmed yet or not. I don't know what's normal but is it possible that a female orgasms without identifying the pleasure as such? I just don't know if that's normal because I don't think it will ever happen if it hasn't already.

Dear ,

To begin, FX reminds you that there are absolutely no stupid questions! TeenHealth is here to answer any questions/concerns you may have. We applaud you for taking the initiative to educate yourself on your health.

  • An orgasm is the peak of sexual arousal when all the muscles that were tightened during sexual arousal relax. During an orgasm, you may feel flushed or warm, and/or experience rapid muscle spasms all over your body, but mainly concentrated in the genital and anal areas.
  • Each person experiences sexual pleasure differently. What feels right for one person may not for the next. Because of this, there are no specific actions that will definitely cause an orgasm to occur.
  • It is important to remember that there is nothing “wrong” with people who do not experience orgasms. Try to think about sexual pleasure as more than just the end goal of orgasming. What’s most important is that you are safe and happy throughout your sexual pleasure method of choice.

TeenHealthFX suggests that all sexually active teens check out our Resource of the Month: Planned Parenthood Resources on Safer Sex so that you can learn about sexual readiness, how pregnancy happens, birth control, STDs, emergency contraception, pregnancy tests and more. The more educated you are about these things, the more you can make healthy decisions for yourself when it comes to decisions about sex and your physical and emotional well-being.
